The Center Moriches Free Public Library will be hosting another New York Blood Center blood drive on  Aug. 29. The event will take place from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Children’s Activity Room.

This will be the library’s eighth blood drive since 2021. Since then, the library helped collect a total of 402 pints of blood. Each pint can save up to three lives.

“We hope our eighth blood drive will be successful and bring the community together to help those in need,” said library director Marcie Litjens.

Mary McNulty, community engagement librarian who helps organize the blood drives for the community, said they are excited to host another event.

“We are so pleased to host a blood drive for the community,” she said. “Knowing that the need for blood in our hospitals never goes away, we are so grateful not only to the New York Blood Center for putting this together, but also to our generous community for helping to save lives through their donations. As community engagement librarian, it is my pleasure to help facilitate this for our community.”

Donating blood is safe if requirements are met, including being in good health; 17 years or older (16 with a parent or guardian’s written consent and 76-plus with physician consent); weighing at least 110 pounds (donors aged 16-18 have additional height and weight restrictions); antibiotics (except antibiotics for acne) if taken for infection, accept after last dose provided donor meets all other criteria; symptom-free for at least 72 hours following cold or flu.

To schedule an appointment or for questions concerning medical eligibility/information, or to make an appointment call 1-800-933-2566. Donors can also call the library at 631-878-0940 ext. 5 to schedule an appointment.
