Tavern night at the Ketcham Inn

Posted

“We have a different sense of time here,” Bert Seides offered as a newly arrived participant apologized for being late.

Indeed, they do.  Through its myriad activities, The Ketcham Inn strives to help residents re-imagine life in the Moriches during the 17th to 19th centuries.

To this end, what better way to spend an evening than with libation, friendly conversation, an inviting host and a winsome storyteller?

As their publican served drinks, Seides moved among guests making sure all felt welcome. Later, Diane Schwindt entertained with a lively discussion on the inn’s place as a mainstay of Center Moriches community life, including the location for folks to gather for mail delivery pre-USPS.

Following a suitable time for socializing, guests made paper and ink, discovering the joys of tactile engagement with the written word.

Future tavern events include another discussion of the 17th to 18th century on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024; an evening of dinner prepared on the hearth on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024; and, just in time for harvest season, a demonstration of historic food preservation on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024.  All events start at 6:30 p.m.
